100 Years of Tivoli Theater
Gulbenkian Orchestra
As part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Teatro Tivoli, one of the venues that hosted Gulbenkian Music Festivals between 1957 and 1970, the Gulbenkian Orchestra performs in a concert that celebrates the beauty and elegance of string music.
Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite will open the programme, an exciting work that revisits the style of the Baroque period with the romantic sensibility of the Norwegian composer. It is followed by the Concerto for Two Violins by J. S. Bach, a masterpiece that highlights the counterpoint technique and will be performed by violinists Francisco Lima Santos and Anna Paliwoda. Closing the concert, the audience will be treated to Czech composer Antonín Dvorák’s Serenade for Strings.
