Retrospective Jacques Demy

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the The Umbrellas of Cherbourg that director Damien Chazelle considered “the best of all time”, meticulously restored in a 4K version, Leopardo Filmes presents an exhaustive cycle dedicated to Jacques Demy.

Until the end of February, Nimas Cinema will feature masterpieces such as Lola and The Young Girls of Rochefort, unmissable gems such as Bay of Angels and Donkey Skin, and lesser-known titles, some of which have never been seen before in the Portuguese exhibition circuit, such as the shorts The Beautiful Indifferent (written by Jean Cocteau) and Lust, the musicals A Room in Town and Parking, and even the French filmmaker’s only American adventure, Model Shop, a film in which Anouk Aimée returns to play the role of Lola.

Demy is considered one of the filmmakers who best combined musical and melodrama, and in recent decades, new generations have discovered the filmmaker’s work and his films have stood the test of time, and are the subject of new readings. Its influence goes beyond cinema and reaches, for example, music, fashion and design.
