The best of indepent cinema is back in another edition of IndieLisboa International Film Festival. The festival opens with Universal Language, by Canadian Matthew Rankin, a comedy that imagines a Canada culturally intertwined with Iran and where three seemingly unconnected stories give rise to a mysterious and surreal narrative.
The vast programme includes a retrospective dedicated to Bulgarian New Wave filmmaker, Binka Jeliaskova, and Focus, is centered on British multimedia artist, filmmaker and essayist Charlie Shackleton, known for his unconventional work. Cinema at the Pool, with sessions for adults and children, is back in this edition. Caught by the Tides, the story of a failed romance that unfolds over 20 years, by Chinese director Jia Zhang-Ke, is the closing film.
