António Palolo in the Manuel de Brito Collection
In 2025, it will be 25 years since the premature death of António Palolo (1946-2000), a self-taught artist, with basic education and who never attended art schools, but who, in 1964, at just 17 years old, made his first solo exhibition at Galeria 111.
His painting is, from the beginning, an explosion of vibrant colors with a strong influence from the pop movement, where stripes and circles intertwine. Little by little, he changed, painting huge pictures of stripes with a great diversity of colors. Over time, the stripes become thinner and thinner until they are just a line. In the 1980s, Palolo painted with human figures. His well-known imaginary landscapes are the subject of several works now on display at CAMB, in an exhibition featuring paintings from 1961 to 1984.
