Art in São Bento 2018

For the second year in a row, the Official Residence of the Prime Minister in São Bento Palace hosts a selection of contemporary Portuguese painting, photography and sculpture. From October 5 until the end of the year, the Official Residence will be open to the public every Sunday, featuring some 50 works by Portuguese artists from the António Cachola Collection in Elvas.

Launched in 2017, Art in São Bento (or Arte em São Bento, in the original Portuguese version) offers an unprecedented journey through contemporary Portuguese art collections, in annual rotation, at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence. Every year, on October 5, the Official Residence opens its doors to a different collection.

After the Serralves Collection in 2017, Art in São Bento will now host a selection of works from the António Cachola-Elvas Contemporary Art Museum collection, focusing exclusively on contemporary Portuguese art, with special emphasis on recent works.

It is not an exhibition, as in a museum or gallery. Curated by João Pinharanda, the works are displayed in the Official Residence’s main rooms, from the most public venues (reception room, audience room, dining room) to the building’s work spaces, adjusted to the purpose of each place.

Artists: Rosa Almeida, Sofia Areal, AnaMary Bilbao, Pedro Calapez, Fernando Calhau, Pedro Casqueiro, Paulo Catrica, Rui Chafes, Alexandre Conefrey, Gil Heitor Cortesão, João Pedro Croft, António Júlio Duarte, Dealmeida Esilva, Alexandre Farto (Vhils), Carla Filipe, Nuno Gil, Pedro Gomes, José Loureiro, Ana Manso, Jorge Molder, Carlos Nogueira, Rodrigo Oliveira, Pedro Proença, João Queiroz, André Romão, Rui Sanches, Julião Sarmento, João Paulo Serafim, Rui Serra, Augusto Alves da Silva, Ana Vidigal, and Xana.
