Café Müller (1985)

Café Müller, by Pina Bausch, is inspired by the choreographer’s childhood memories of watching her father work in a café in Germany during and after the Second World War. The piece explores themes such as loneliness, desire, memory and complex human relationships through an intense and repetitive performance. On stage, bodies confront each other in a surreal and labyrinthine space, creating an atmosphere of fragility and tension.

The film, recorded during one of Café Müller‘s performances, offers a glimpse into the power of live performance. Originally presented in 1978, it was first broadcast on German television in 1985. In the talk after the film, choreographer and dancer Gaya de Medeiros will present a personal view on Café Müller and explore the relationship between Café Müller and her project Cafezinho.

Free Admission with ticket pickup 15 min. before the session starts (subject to room capacity).
