Directed by Feng Ying, the National Ballet of China will take to the Teatro Camões stage with a triple program: five scenes from Roland Petit’s Carmen; the first two acts of Giselle, by Ying, from the original choreography; and The Yellow River, a 28-minute performance choreographed by Beijing Dance Academy teacher Chen Zemei, premiered in 1999, featuring music from the famous Yellow River piano concert, inspired by the Yellow River Cantata, written during World War II by one of the greatest Chinese composers, Xian Xinghai.
