Architects Eduardo Souto de Moura, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Gabriel Calatrava and Leong Leong and designers Yves Béhar and Sagmeister & Walsh reinvented and tested the possibilities of Portuguese cork and its processing industry for the parishes of Belém, in Lisbon, and Trafaria, in Almada.

The result can be seen at the pedestrian crossing to Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Life Expectancy, Sagmeister & Walsh), Museu de Arte Popular (Cork Bottles, Sagmeister & Walsh), Espelho d’Água (Humpbacks , Sagmeister & Walsh), Jardins do MAAT Garden (Port-All, Yves Béhar and Lily Pad, Leong Leong), Passeio Carlos do Carmo (Conversadeira II, Eduardo Souto de Moura), public garden at Rua do Cais da Alfândega Velha (Second Skin, Diller Scofidio + Renfro), in Lisbon, and Praceta Porto de Lisboa (Onda, Gabriel Calatrava I Collaborative Architecture Laboratory), at Trafaria.
