Continuous Vitality
João Artur da Silva & Isabel Meyrelles
On the day João Artur da Silva celebrates his 96th birthday, the exhibition Continuous Vitality opens at Perve Galeria, bringing together his artwork, shown for the first time in a retrospective, and that of Isabel Meyrelles, his friend from youth and companion in the Surrealist adventure, which he joined directly as a founding member of the Portuguese group Os Surrealistas, which included names such as Mário Cesariny, Pedro Oom and Cruzeiro Seixas, among others.
After the development of an intense friendship, decades of estrangement followed for reasons of geography. João Artur went to England in the 1950s and Isabel to Paris. This exhibition thus marks a symbolic reunion between the two artists, both of whom used sculpture as a fundamental element in the development of their visual expression.
