This year, Colina of Santana will have the honor of hosting the European Literature Night, which, although still in its 7th edition, is already a tradition in the city of Lisbon. The evening will kick off with an opening show featuring a special guest – Casa Fernando Pessoa, which will bring together the poets Golgona Anghel, José Luiz Tavares, Margarida Vale de Gato, Miguel Cardoso, Marta Chaves and Vasco Gato for an event titled ‘ A língua às portas do céu da boca’ (something like ‘The tongue at the gates of the roof of the mouth’).

The usual readings of excerpts from European literary works will be held in various venues: Xuventude de Galicia – Centro Galego de Lisboa, NOVA Medical School – Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Biblioteca de São Lázaro, Galeria Monumental, Escola Básica N.º 1 de Lisboa – Agrupamento de Escolas Nuno Gonçalves, Paço da Rainha, and Carpintarias de São Lázaro. The readings take 10 to 15 minutes and are repeated every half hour so that the audience can attend all sessions.

From novels to poetry and even fantasy literature, the evening will feature authors from 14 countries: Daniel Kehlmann (Germany), Judith Nika Pfeifer (Austria), Dubravka Oraić Tolić (Croatia), Leopoldo María Panero (Spain), Maria Turtschaninoff (Finland), Maylis de Kerangal (France), Christos Ikonomou (Greece), John Banville (Ireland), Enrico Ianniello (Italy), Olga Tokarczuk (Poland), Fiona Mozley (UK), Kamil Bouška (Czech Republic) and Radu Paraschivescu (Romania). João Tordo, who recently published the novel ‘ A Mulher que Correu Atrás do Vento’, will lend his voice to Portuguese literature. LAE
