Feira da Luz

September is synonymous with partying in Carnide. From 1 to 30, Largo da Luz welcomes the traditional Feira da Luz, probably the oldest in the city. Its origin, linked to the traditional pilgrimage that took place in the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Luz, was lost somewhere in the Middle Age. Although its focus was religious festivities, it soon turned out to be a great business spot for shopkeepers, fruit sellers and basket makers, a tradition that is still alive today.
Times have changed and the fair had to adapt to modernity, with an offer for all tastes, including concerts of various genres, street entertainment and activities for the younger ones. The event may yet suffer many transformations in the future, but there is something that we dare to bet will never change: the presence of traditional candies. In addition to the classic roulottes with farturas and churros, there are also ice cream carts, homemade lollipops, popcorn or homemade nougats and, of course, the classic cotton candy.
Feira da Luz is currently organized by Junta de Freguesia de Carnide. The program includes street animation, theater, exhibitions, handicrafts, concerts (Lena D’Água, Toy, Carolina Deslandes, Áurea, Clã, among others), folklore, workshops, dance, philharmonic bands and the procession of Nossa Senhora da Luz, to close the event.
