Leffest 2018

November marks the return of the  LEFFEST, a film festival including areas such as literature, music, visual arts, among others. The program of the 12th edition honors Portuguese director João Botelho with a retrospective, the most extensive so far, which includes his first films, such as: Alexandre e a Rosa (1978) or Um Adeus Português (1986), as well as more recent works, such as Peregrinaçao (2017). Other filmmakers, such as Paul Schrader, Mike Leigh or Mario Martone are also honored with retrospectives. David Lynch, who has already been present in various forms in other editions of the festival, this year is the central figure of a multidisciplinary program that includes two exhibitions, the display of several works in the areas of cinema, television and advertising, and the launch of a book.

Highlighted also by two cycles: A Desire Called Utopia, presenting works whose central theme is the concept of utopia; and Neoliberalism – The Seed of Populism and New Fascism?, showing movies such as Il Conformista, by Bernardo Bertolucci, The Uncertain Tomorrow – Hurry Sundown, by Otto Preminger, or 8, avenue Lénine, by Valérie Mitteaux, by Anna Pitoun, not released in Portugal.

The program also includes special sessions that promote discussion and debate between the public and the guests. Lastly, The Flower, by the hand of Argentine Mariano Llinás – a film that took 10 years to produce and is 15-hours long (divided into three parts) – will be a unique event, as it can be only be watched at LEFFEST.
