Orquestra XXI and Alena Baeva
In July, Orquestra XXI returns to Centro Cultural de Belém with a programme dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven’s 6th Symphony. Programmatic in nature, the famous Pastoral came to elevate illustrative music to new artistic standards, reconciling its formal qualities with the ability to arouse, in the public, pictorial associations and typically romantic emotions. Also in this program, with musical direction by Dinis Sousa, the group will perform Noturno para cordas, by Joly Braga Santos, and will accompany Alena Baeva — laureate of international competitions such as the Henryk Wieniawski Prize — in the Concerto for violin and orchestra no. 2 by Dmitri Schostakovich.
