Conversations between Bordalo and Querubim
Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905) and Querubim Lapa (1925-2016) are the protagonists of this exhibition, which puts into dialogue the work of two artists whose paths never crossed in time. The death of one is 20 years distant from the birth of the other, but Querubim knew Bordalo very well through his vast artistic legacy. Admiration and identification emerged from the younger man’s look at the work of the elder, which initiated a private dialogue that was maintained throughout Querubim Lapa’s artistic career. This exhibition, composed of about 170 works by the two artists, some of them unpublished, is curated by Rita Gomes Ferrão and Pedro Bebiano Braga, and is held in collaboration with the Centro de Estudos for Querubim Lapa.
