Artists have long understood the transformational power of games, integrating them into their works for various purposes – escapism, social construction and transformation, subversion, or criticism of the very mechanisms of play and game.
Playmode offers a reflection on these aspects and on the process of ‘gamification’ that affects contemporary societies, bringing together the works of such artists as Brad Downey, Gabriel Orozco and Ana Vieira, who explore new ways of perceiving, engaging and transforming the world by critically using the notion of play.
