Schostakovich

Dmitri Schostakovich composed Symphony No. 10 in 1953, immediately after Stalin’s death. For this reason, it is often understood as a reaction to that event. It has recently come to light, however, that the composition of The 3rd movement could be inspired by the passion for a woman. The enigmas and ambiguities hanging over the Russian musician’s legacy are thus multiplied.

Before performing this emblematic symphony from the 20th century repertoire, and by way of an appetizer, the students from the Metropolitana Professional School and the National Superior Academy of Orchestra will give us a brief listen to the Festive Overture that Schostakovich composed immediately afterwards, as part of a concert scheduled to take place at the Bolshoi Theatre on the same day as the 37th anniversary of the Russian Revolution.
