Exotismos - repensar o passado próximo
Vasco Araújo brings to Casa do Jardim da Estrela Exotismos, a series of sculptures and sound sculptures that, using fruits and plants often presented as exotic, question the definition of civilization and our relationship with what we consider different.
In addition to these, the exhibition also includes works from the series É por isso que me Lembrei do Passado, por ter Medo do Futuro…(That’s why I Remembered the Past, because I’m Afraid of the Future…), which explore relations of power, dependence and submission, both framed by family, domestic and social contexts, and sustained in notions of exoticism and otherness.
Adansonia, a large-format video installation on drawing that suggests an analogy between the history of plants and the history of human beings, is another piece on display.
