The Museum of Lisbon promotes guided walking tours through the city, revealing how Lisbon has always been diverse and plural. From May to October, these thematic walking tours help to discover evidences of this multiculturalism hidden in the middle of hills, narrow streets and old neighbourhoods, showing how Lisbon was built and experienced over time.

The 1755 earthquake destroyed a large part of Lisbon. This dramatic episode forever changed the geography of the city and had an important impact on European mentalities and culture. According to a modern urban plan, the reconstruction of the city gave birth to a new downtown of wide streets and geometric layout, the so-called Baixa.
