War and Turpentine

A year after bringing the irresistible blockbuster of Isabella’s Room to the Almada Festival, the Belgian director Jan Lauwers presents a stage adaptation of Stefan Hertmans’ acclaimed novel of the same name.

Once again, it is the shattered memory of History that is at the epicenter of the action. If Isabella’s Roomwas a delirious twentieth-century journey inside the head of a woman (played by the great Viviane De Muynck), War and Turpentinefocuses on the painful experience of trench warfare during the 1914/18 War experienced by Hertmans’ grandfather, a Flemish soldier who survived the barbarism of war to tell about it.

De Muynck plays the role of narrator in this amazing show that combines theater, music and dance. FB

Show in English with subtitles in Portuguese.
